Denison Lecture Series Welcomes Moral Ethicist Randy Cohen

The Denison University Lecture Series presents moral ethicist Randy Cohen at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 6) in the Burton Morgan Auditorium. He will address the topic "How To Be Good" and will also conduct a question and answer session with any moral questions that the audience asks. The event is free and open to the public.

Cohen writes the weekly column "The Ethicist" for The New York Times Magazine that is syndicated by the Universal Press Syndicate as "On Ethics." He is also an Emmy Award-winning comedy writer who has worked with David Letterman and Rosie O'Donnell.


He attended graduate school at the California Institute of the Arts as a music major studying composition. He first began working professionally as a writer of humor pieces, essays and stories for newspapers and magazines. Such publications include The New Yorker, Harpers, The Atlantic and Young Love Comics. A collection of these pieces, titled "Diary of a Flying Man," has since been published. He also wrote for several years, for The News Quiz, a regular column of topical comedy for Slate, the online magazine.

His first television work was writing for "Late Night with David Letterman," for which he won three Emmy awards. He was also the original head writer on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show."

Along with writing his column in the New York Times Magazine, Cohen is also the ethics columnist for the Times of London. "The Good, the Bad and the Difference," a book based upon the column, was recently published. He is also a regular contributor to "Weekend All Things Considered" on National Public Radio.
