GRANVILLE -- Dr. Carol Cohn, executive director of the Boston Consortium on Gender, Security and Human Rights, will speak at Denison University at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Burton Morgan Lecture Hall (150 Ridge Loop). The lecture is free and open to the public.
Cohn's recent research includes mainstreaming gender into peace and security organizations. Her examination of the passage of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1325 which specifically addresses the impact of war on women and women's contributions to conflict resolution and sustainable peace, reflects this research. Cohn's scholarly appointments include senior research scholar at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and senior research scholar in the department of political science at Wellesley College.
Cohn's lecture is sponsored by the department of women's studies at Denison University and the 2007-2008 Laura C. Harris Symposium "Feminism and War, Feminism and Peace." Dr. Laura C. Harris, Denison class of 1916, was a pioneering medical educator and an advocate for an increased role for women in science. Her 1990 bequest to Denison University remains one of the largest gifts to Denison from an individual.
