Denison Concert Choir Performs Program of Sacred and Seasonal Music

The Denison University Concert Choir will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday Dec. 12, in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). The ensemble concert is free and open to the public.
Directed by Wei Cheng, the Denison University Concert Choir is a long-established university/community group that includes Denison students, faculty and staff, as well as singers from the Granville area.
The program includes John Rutter’s “Gloria” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms.” In addition, the Denison Chamber Singers and the Denison Brass Ensemble will perform, and a selection of Christmas carols and songs also will be included.
Cheng, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music, joined the faculty at Denison University in 2008 from Earlham College, where she served as Earlham's interim director of choral activities after having served two years as Earlham's assistant choral director. Originally from Beijing, China, she earned her bachelor’s degree in choral conducting from Beijing’s Central Conservatory of Music and recently finished her doctoral studies at College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. During her graduate studies at CCM, she was the music director of the University of Cincinnati Women's Chorus (2002-2004), and was a three-time winner of the annual CCM conducting competition.
