Children's Creative Movement Classes Offered By Denison Dance Department

Posted: September 2, 2002

Students from the Denison University Dance Department will once again be offering Creative Movement classes for community children ages 3 through 7 at the Doane Dance Center. Classes will be taught by Denison students beginning Saturday (Sept. 14) and will be held weekly through Nov. 16.

A special 45-minute class at 9 a.m. for 3-year-old children will include active parent participation during all class sessions. Children 4 through 7 can sign up for one-hour classes at either 10 a.m. or 11:15 a.m.

The Creative Movement Program offers a non-competitive arena in which children can learn and practice movement skills. Through the practice of creative movement, children become more aware of how their bodies move, explore concepts of space, time and effort as they apply to movement, employ creative methods of thinking about movement, and gain confidence in their own movement abilities. Movement skills developed in Creative Movement later become useful in a variety of physical activities, including both dance and athletics.

To enroll your child, call the dance department at (740) 587-6712 or e-mail to dougan@denison.edu. There is a fee of $25 per child.
