"Eat / Love / Dance" performance at Denison
Date of Event: December 9, 2010
Posted: November 29, 2010
Denison University’s Department of Dance will present “Eat / Love / Dance,” a concert, at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-11, in the Theatre Arts Building, Ace Morgan Theatre (211 West College Street). The performance is free and open to the public.
“Eat / Love / Dance” features works by dance faculty Stafford C. Berry Jr. and guest artists Julie Fox and Rachael Riggs-Leyva. Fox’s original contemporary piece, “Fruit in the Downstage Right Corner,” will lead off the performance. Featuring seven Denison students, an original composition by the Department of Dance’s resident musician Terrence Karn, and a little fruit inspiration thrown in to sweeten the experience, this work explores the choices choreographers make to convey meaning through movement and perspective. “Vivaldiana” (1969), a classical ballet created by choreographer Jon Rodriquez and reconstructed by Riggs-Leyva, holds the center spot on the program. Reconstructed from the Labanotation score, this piece will be performed en pointe by six Denison students. The evening’s performance will conclude with Berry’s group work, “Rhythm is the Constant.” This energetic piece features a cast of 13 Denison students performing contemporary African dance accompanied by Karn and student musicians on African drums.
