GRANVILLE, Ohio—The Denison Department of Dance will present four performances of “3+1,” the Fall Dance Concert, at 8 p.m. from Wednesday, Dec. 7, through Saturday, Dec. 10, in the Doane Dance Performance Space (231West College Street). The show will feature performances from three members of the faculty and staff, Stafford Berry, Terrence Karn and Sandra Mathern-Smith, as well as one guest artist, Jimmy Orrante. The event is free and open to the public and it is suggested to arrive early, as seating is limited. For more information, contact Susan Kosling at 740-587-6712 or visit www.denison.edu.

The title “3+1” evokes many relationships within this equation: three dance works and one music piece by resident musician Karn; creations by three men and one woman; three Denison colleagues and one guest artist. The focus of the works range from contemporary to ballet to African. The works engage more than 40 student performers in both dance and music.

The concert celebrates Karn as he presents his farewell to Denison. After four years of fruitful collaboration with the Department of Dance, Karn leaves for new adventures in Wisconsin. The department is pleased to welcome Orrante, principal dancer with BalletMet, as guest artist for this event.

Orrante has been a member of the dance company BalletMet: Columbus for 15 seasons, serving as both a dancer and choreographer. He has performed with other notable companies, including England’s Northern Ballet Theatre and the Memphis Ballet, among others. Orrante also has choreographed several pieces, one of them being BalletMet’s rendition of “The Great Gatsby.”
