Entertainment Legend and Denison Alumnus John Davidson '63 Shares Secrets of Success

Actor and singer John Davidson, Denison class of 1963, will give an hour-long presentation titled "The Art of the Singing Entertainer" at 10:30 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 19), in Ace Morgan Theatre, located in Denison's Theatre Arts Building (211 W. College St.). Along with discussing his career in show business, he will explain how he puts together concerts such as the one he will present later that evening at the historic Midland Theatre in Newark. A question-and-answer session will follow his talk.
Davidson has received acclaim for work in theatre, television, film, and nightclubs. Musicals he has starred in include "The Fantasticks," "Foxy," "Oklahoma!," "The Music Man," "Carousel," "The Will Rogers Follies," "State Fair," and just last month, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." He also toured in the one-man play "Bully," portraying Teddy Roosevelt.
The son of a Baptist minister, Davidson was born in Pittsburgh. While at Denison, in addition to Theatre Department productions, he appeared for three seasons in numerous Denison Summer Theatre shows. At the conclusion of the 1963 season, he moved to New York City; by the following year he was appearing with Bert Lahr on Broadway in "Foxy." He has hosted TV game and award shows; "The Tonight Show;" and has appeared in numerous films and television series.
