Lecture digs into vertical farming

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Dickson Despommier, author of “Vertical Farm: Feeding the World in the 21st Century,” will present a lecture at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 19, in the Welsh Hills Room of Denison University’s Burton D. Morgan Center (150 Ridge Road). The vertical farm is a new approach to indoor farming that aims to meet the food demands of the future through the use of high-rise buildings mimicking ecological processes. The lecture, sponsored by the Ronneberg Endowment and the McPhail Center for Environmental Studies, is free and open to the public. Despommier is a microbiologist, ecologist and professor of public health at Columbia University. He will discuss the socioeconomic and ecological dimensions of contemporary food systems and suggests a new organizational paradigm for food production, vertical farming in urban areas.
