Annual Double Reed Day Returns to Denison University

Oboe and bassoon students and professionals are invited to attend Denison University Double Reed Day, featuring guest ensemble Anime BOP!, from noon to 4:30 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 25, in the Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). The day will include sessions on performance and warm-up techniques, professionals working with young musicians in master classes and a grand finale double reed ensemble performance of the Washington Post March by John Philip Sousa. This event, hosted by Steve Rosenberg, instructor of oboe, and Cynthia Cioffari, instructor of bassoon, is free and open to the public.
The guest ensemble Anime BOP! is a renowned Pittsburgh-based trio with Robin Driscoll on oboe, Linda Morton on bassoon, and Robert Frankenberry on piano. They will perform Trio for Piano, Oboe, and Bassoon by Andre Previn, Morning Music by Thomas Massella, Cycling from Motion Sonata by Evan Hause and the Presto from Trio by Francis Poulenc.
In addition to attending educational sessions and music performances, students and professionals can buy oboe and bassoon instruments, reed-making equipment, tuners, metronomes and sheet music from vendors throughout the day. David Nesmith will also offer a session on mindfulness, breathing and poise with the Alexander Technique.
Students are encouraged to bring their instruments. Door prizes will be offered to participants, compliments of Midwest Music Imports.
