The musical spotlight will shine on bassoons, oboes and English horns, the trio of often-neglected double reed instruments, for Double Reed Day on Denison’s campus. Denison instructors and professional musicians from the Midwest will showcase these instruments from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway) and Burton Hall (241 West College). The event is free and open to the public.
Double Reed Day will include master classes, maintenance demonstrations, presentations on performance anxiety, warm-up techniques and short recitals by guest musicians Jeannette Bittar, guest principal oboist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota, and by George Sakakeeny, professor of bassoon at Oberlin Conservatory. The event is sponsored by Denison affiliate instructors Steve Rosenberg, instructor of oboe, and Jethro Woodson, instructor of bassoon.
