Denison Faculty and Guests Host Double Reed Classes, Workshops

Denison University's Department of Music presents Double Reed Day, a day of special activities for oboists, bassoonists and music educators, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 20) at Burke Hall. Admission is free and a complimentary pizza lunch will be provided.
Double Reed Day will include master classes, recitals, and a broad range of workshops, including sessions on breathing, body alignment and body mapping for woodwind players, reed making and warm up techniques for oboists, and reed maintenance and practice techniques for bassoonists. A number of exhibitors will be on hand with sheet music, reed making equipment and instruments. In addition musicians will be able to schedule time to have a repair specialist check their instruments for minor adjustment and repairs. The event will end with a Double Reed Choir Play-In Extravaganza.
Events will be coordinated by the double reed faculty at Denison University, including Steve Rosenberg, oboe, and Jethro Woodson, bassoon. Guest artists and experts who will participate include; Donna Conaty, professor of oboe at Ohio University; Lecolion Washington, professor of bassoon at the University of Memphis; Lea Pearson, Andover educator and body mapping specialist; Dr. J. Ernest Wells, Common Sense Chiropractic Center; and Vickie Ball-Seiter, woodwind repair specialist.
