Denison Alumna Tapped as Director of Alumni Affairs

Denison University Vice President for University Resources and Public Affairs Julie Houpt has named Sandra Peeler Ellinger as Director of Alumni Affairs. A 1965 Denison graduate, Ellinger has been serving as assistant to the president since 1994. She joined the Denison staff in 1992 as secretary of the annual fund office in the University Resources and Public Affairs (URPA) division.
"Sandy brings to this position a deep love for Denison, a passion for the liberal arts, outstanding communication and organizational skills, and extensive experience working with volunteers," said Houpt. "During her 10-year tenure at Denison, Sandy has worked with two presidents, two board chairs, almost four dozen trustees and scores of alumni, faculty, students, and parents. Sandy and the team in alumni affairs will play a key role in connecting and involving alumni in the life of the College. We are so pleased to be welcoming Sandy back to our division."
Ellinger began her career as a teacher of French and Spanish in the local Utica andschool systems. She has also been office manager for the Montessori School, assistant to the president at the Jerry McClain Company, and vice president of operations at the Ohio Gas Marketing firm, all Newark organizations, and senior assistant at the Hultin consulting firm, Columbus.
Her extensive volunteer work includes serving as president and on the board of A Special Wish Foundation since 1989. Ellinger also served as moderator of the First Baptist Church offrom 1993 to 1995, as chair of its stewardship committee for six years and as choir director. She accepted the chairmanship of the church's Revitalization Campaign in 2001, working on a capital campaign to raise money to make the building handicapped accessible while using human resources to enhance three facets of the congregational life: mission, experience and growth.
Ellinger replaces Lyn Boone in the alumni affairs position. Boone has moved within Denison's URPA division to the position of senior development officer, foundation and corporate relations.
