Modern farming is more than putting seeds in the earth and allowing the sun and soil to do their work. Curt Ellis explores farming systems with a film and lecture at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, in Denison University’s Burton D. Morgan Lecture Hall (150 Ridge Road). The event is free and open to the public.

Ellis is an environmentalist and filmmaker who documents the impact of chemically dependent farming on the environment. His second film, “Big River,” continues the investigation of his film “King Corn,” and the effect that an acre of corn, planted with the usual pesticides and fertilizers, has on both the local and far-off ecosystems. The half-hour film will be followed by a lecture about industrialized agriculture, subsidized crops and fast food.
