Fine Grain installation in Burton D. Morgan atrium

GRANVILLE, Ohio— “Fine Grain,” a series of three-dimensional art installations by Abram Kaplan, artist and associate professor of environmental studies at Denison University, is open for public view at the Burton D. Morgan Center atrium (150 Ridge Road), Slayter Hall (200 Ridge Road) and Huffman Dining Hall (700 East Loop). “Fine Grain” will be open through Friday, Nov. 18. The installation is free and open to the public. Hours at Huffman Dining Hall are weekdays from 7:45-10:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 5:30-8 p.m. Huffman weekend hours are 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. Other locations open during regular business hours. For more information, contact Abram Kaplan at 740-587-6736 or visit www.denison.edu.

According to Kaplan, the exhibition is “an artistic exploration into the American food system. But it is also a personal journey about my process of learning how to see.”
The installation is comprised of six major pieces; a series of reclaimed barn windows with different “views” imposed on them; a 14-foot-tall three-dimensional silo, which sits on a “floor” of corn stubble; a 16-foot-wide ring lined with panoramic prints on both the inside and outside of the ring; and a series of 12 triangular pylons, each face of the three-sided pylon printed with a scene from a local farm so that when lined up, the 12 pieces represent three different scenes, but they may be moved to create new views as well.
