GRANVILLE -- The Denison music department is hosting a flute master class for Denison flute students with principal flutist Randall Hester of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. The event will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). It is free and open to the public.

Hester has been with the Columbus Symphony since 1975. He has been a soloist many times and is active as a chamber musician in the central Ohio area. He also has served as visiting instructor of flute at Capital, Ohio State and Ohio Wesleyan universities and Heidelberg and Otterbein colleges.

A native of San Diego, Calif., Hester graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 1973, where he studied with the legendary Joseph Mariano. From 1974 to 1981, he continued his flute studies with Maurice Sharp, principal flutist with the Cleveland Orchestra. He also has performed as principal flutist with the Center Orchestra of Lake Placid, the music academy of the West Symphony Orchestra and in 1985 as an artist-fellow for the Bach Aria Group Festival in Stony Brook, N.Y., for its tri-centennial celebration of J.S. Bach.
