GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison University’s Office of Multi-Cultural Student Affairs will launch a new food and culture colloquium series at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, in the auditorium of Slayter Hall (200 Ridge Road). The series will consist of 24 sessions that will take place on Wednesdays during the 2012-2013 academic year, and also will include “kitchen practicums” that will typically take place twice a month on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at either Lamson Lodge (200 Washington Drive) or The Open House (204 North Mulberry Street), according to the schedule. The series is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. To register or for more information, visit www.denison.edu/food-culture or contact Mark Anthony Arceño, at 740-587-8687.

“Food studies is a dynamic and interdisciplinary field that plays out extremely well within the liberal arts setting, just as much as it plays out in our daily lives,” says Arceño, organizer of the series. Following an introduction to the study of food and culture, the colloquium’s general themes will emphasize food identity, the liberal arts, celebrations of food, contemporary food issues and environmental sustainability.
