Denison Brightens Up the Rainy Season With Comedy Play "Fuddy Meers"

Date of Event: April 6, 2007

Posted: March 27, 2007

If April showers bring May flowers, perhaps we can thank March's dreary days with producing healthy laughs for the Denison Theatre's final production of the 06/07 season. The outrageous comedy, "Fuddy Meers," a play written by David Lindsay-Abair, opens at 8 p.m. on Friday (April 6) in Ace Morgan Theatre (211 W. College Street). Additional performance dates are Saturday (April 7) and Tues-Sat (April 10 to 14). Tickets are available at the box office or by calling 740-587-6231. General admission is $8, senior citizens $5, and students $4.

"Fuddy Meers" follows the adventures of Claire, who suffers from psychogenic amnesia, which makes her lose all memories each night when she sleeps. Her world goes topsy-turvy when she is abducted by a man in a ski mask, who might be her brother, and then is kept hostage by a demented puppeteer at the home of her equally bizarre mother. This separates Claire from her most precious possession, her notebook, where all vital information is written down, step by daily step. She no longer has access to the notebook that has become her identity.

"It's a really fast paced and hysterically funny comedy mixed with elements of drama, including issues of miscommunications and finding one's identity," says the play's director, Professor Rob Gander.

"Fuddy Meers" features Denison seniors Chris Carr as Millet, Christian Vernon as Richard, Lindsey Johnston as Claire, Natalie Berndsen as Gertie and W. Paige Sawin as Heidi; and sophomores Bendixen Jacoby as Limping Man, and Evan Hill as Kenny. Working as student staff for the production are: juniors Kathryn George as stage manager, Kehler Relick as assistant costumer designer, and Stephanie Byers as assistant director; and sophomore Arielle Waite as assistant stage manager.
