Gamelon music ensemble at Denison

Date of Event: April 11, 2010

Posted: April 2, 2010

The Denison University Gamelan Ensemble will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, in the Burton D. Morgan Center Atrium (150 Ridge Road), under the direction of Seth Rogers. The concert is free and open to the public.

At the heart of traditional Balinese gamelan music is the “kotekan,” a musical structure in which layers of individually simple patterns are played in a complex interlocking fashion, creating a vibrant tapestry of composite melodies. It is a musical structure that embodies, through sound, an ideal model of community and cooperation.
