The Denison University Gospel Choir, under the direction of Raymond Wise, '83, celebrates its fifth anniversary with "A Concert of Gospel Music and Spirituals." The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m., Sunday (April 17) in Swasey Chapel. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

The 100+ voice gospel choir will perform a varied program of spirituals, traditional and contemporary gospel music. The program will feature the musical compositions and arrangement of various gospel composers including works by director Wise. Some titles include: "So Glad to Be Here," "Teach Me to Pray," "Hallelujah, Hallelu," "Soon I Will Be Done," "How Majestic is Thy Name," and "So Good."

Denison's Gospel Choir is comprised of students, faculty, and staff members of all races and nationalities from the Denison campus and local community. All choir members are also enrolled in an African-American Gospel Music and Spirituals course in which they receive training in the performance and historical development of African-American gospel music.

In addition to serving on the Denison faculty, Wise also teaches at Ohio State University and the Columbus School for Girls. He is founder and president of Raise Productions, a gospel music production company in Columbus.
