Two events center on Dakar, Senegal

GRANVILLE, Ohio— According to a popular saying in Dakar, Senegal, “You can find anything in the world at Colobane Market.” The documentary film “Market Imaginary” explores Dakar’s Colobane Market and its surrounding neighborhood. The film’s United States premiere will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, in the auditorium of Denison University’s Higley Hall (100 Ridge Road). In addition, a lecture by Mamadou Diouf, director of African Studies at Columbia University, will take place at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the auditorium of Higley Hall (100 Ridge Road). The lecture, “Youth, Culture and Society in Late 20th Century Dakar,” brings a broader context of Dakar to the community. Both events are free and open to the public.
