The unbearable lightness of neoliberalism in the Middle East

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison University’s Global Studies Seminar presents a lecture by Firat Demir, an associate professor of economics at the University of Oklahoma, “The Unbearable Lightness of Neoliberalism in the Middle East: The Love Affair of Islamists and Secularists with Free Markets.” The lecture will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the auditorium of Denison’s Higley Hall (100 Ridge Road). Demir’s research is focused on international finance and development economics with a particular emphasis on the role of financial globalization in determining the growth and development path of developing countries. His more recent research explores the causes and effects of South-South integration in trade and finance, the effects exchange rate regimes on long-term growth, and the political economy of revolutions in the Middle East. 
The Global Studies Seminar at Denison is a multidisciplinary, scholarly forum, generally with an international focus, for the presentation and discussion of papers in progress or other scholarly subjects.
