British Philosopher will Discuss 'Faith and Reason' at Denison

British philosopher John Haldane, director of the Centre for Ethics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, will speak on the topic of "Faith, Reason, and Philosophy" at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 25) in the Burton Morgan Lecture Hall on the Denison University campus. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Goodspeed Lecture Fund.

Haldane is internationally known for his work on the philosophy of the mind. Since 2002, he has served as the Director of Teaching in Philosophy at St. Andrews. He has lectured at Notre Dame's Center for Ethics and Culture and at its Thomistic Institute multiple times.

Haldane attended the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Rochester and earned a bachelor's degree in fine art at the Wimbledon School of Art in London. He also earned a degree at the University of London, Institute of Education, and both a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a doctorate at the University of London, Birkbeck College.

He is the co-author of the book, "Athiesm and Theism," which was selected as one of "tomorrow's classics." Other works include: "An Intelligent Person's Guide to Religion," "Faithful Reason: Essays Catholic and Philosophical," and "Modern Writings on Thomism."
