Alumnus Charles P. Henry delivers keynote
for Black Studies’ 40th anniversary

GRANVILLE — Charles P. Henry, professor of African-American Studies at the University of California at Berkeley, will present the keynote address “Black Studies at Middle Age” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, in Denison University’s Herrick Hall (500 West Loop). Henry’s address will explore the development and evolution of black studies at Denison and in the nation. The event kicks-off the yearlong celebration of Denison’s Black Studies Program’s 40th Anniversary and is free and open to the public.

A Denison graduate of the class of 1969 and one of the foremost scholars in black studies, Henry authored “Long Overdue: The Politics of Racial Reparations.” In 1994, President Clinton appointed him to the National Council for the Humanities for a six-year term. Also, Henry is the former president of the National Council for Black Studies, the former director of Denison’s Black Studies Program and the former Chair of Amnesty International U.S.A. Henry is the author/editor of seven books and more than 80 articles and reviews on black politics, public policy and human rights.
