Denison Speaker Shares Tale Of Religious Saga

The Denison University Goodspeed Lecture Series will present Linda Hess, a lecturer in religious studies at Stanford University, speaking on "Kabir Says, 'Listen Seekers!' A Saga of Religious Transmission in India and Beyond." Her presentation will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (April 13) in the Burton Morgan Lecture Hall and is free and open to the public.
Hess has won numerous honors. She was honored by the government of India for contributions to Hindi literary studies at the International Hindi Conference in London in 1999 and was awarded an American Institute of Indian Studies and National Endowment for the Humanities Senior Fellowship in 2002. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University in 1964, Hess went on to earn both a master's degree and a doctorate in comparative literature at the University of California, Berkeley.
She has lectured and served on the faculty at Elphinstone College, Bombay, Barnard College, Dartmouth College, Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley and Davis, and at California State University, Sonoma. Hess is a member of the American Academy of Religion and is currently on the steering committee for its Religion in South Asia Section and was chair of the section in 1992-95.
