Denison University’s director of financial aid, Nancy Hoover, was invited to the White House on Friday, Feb. 19, for a briefing and discussion with senior administration officials on the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA), which is currently pending in the U.S. Senate.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to participate in an important discussion,” said Hoover, who is currently national chair of the National Direct Student Loan Coalition (NDSLC), a grassroots, nonprofit organization of college financial aid practitioners. “Our purpose is to let the world know what students need. We work to educate the U.S. Congress and the Department of Education. We are interested in stable sources of loan funding with the best terms and conditions for college students.”
The National Direct Student Loan Coalition is an alliance of schools participating in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program. The coalition’s mission is to promote the success of the Federal Direct Student Loan Program in serving the interests of students, families, taxpayers and institutions.
Hoover joined the Denison staff some 15 years ago, at the start of a dynamic period in the school’s history. She has played a key role in defining an extremely successful financial aid strategy, making it possible for thousands of families to afford a Denison education.
According to Seth Patton, Denison’s vice president for finance and management, “Nancy and her staff have partnered closely with the Admissions staff. Nancy often speaks at area high schools, offering her knowledge and experience to families trying to understand the complex world of college financial aid. The fact that Nancy is serving as national chair of the NDSLC speaks volumes about her standing with higher education colleagues across the country.”
