Denison's 2011 Human Rights Film Festival

The first screening of the International Studies Program’s 2011 Human Rights Film Festival, has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 2) in Slayter Hall Auditorium. It features "In the Land of the Free..." (2010). A discussion with Robert Hillary King will immediately follow the film in the same location from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. The film screening and discussion are free and open to public.
Directed by Vadim Jean and starring Samuel L. Jackson, the documentary tells the ongoing story of "The Angola 3," three black men from rural Louisiana who were held in solitary confinement in the biggest prison in the U.S., an 18,000-acre former slave plantation known as Angola.
The 2011 Human Rights Film Festival presents four film screenings and will be held at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in February in the auditorium of Slayter Hall (200 Ridge Road). The event is co-sponsored by the Student Activities Office, International Student Services, the Laura C. Harris Symposium, the Black Studies Program, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and the departments of Communication, Education, Sociology/Anthropology, and Political Science.

• Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., “Out in the Silence” by Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer
• Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., “Last Best Chance” by Michael Camerini and Shari Robertson
• Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m., “Enemies of the People” by Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath
