Denison Screens Human Rights Film Festival
Posted: January 8, 2008 / Last Updated: January 11, 2008
“Personal commitment can make a very real difference,” is the message of the Human Rights Watch 2007 International Film Festival. Film has the power to educate and motivate concerned individuals about struggles throughout the world for human rights. These stories will be told at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in February beginning Feb. 5 at Slayter Auditorium (200 Ridge Road). The films are free and open to the public.
Each week the festival will screen a new film highlighting human rights issues in different regions of the world. The subjects include the bombing of Hiroshima and its implications in the nuclear world of today; the International Criminal Tribunal in Serbia and Croatia; a professor accused of bio-terrorism; and the United State’s response to global warming.
Sponsored by the international studies and political science departments, Denison’s student activities council, the Lilly fund and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, each film’s screening will offer a faculty-led discussion afterward.
