Denison Faculty Recital Features Pianist Hyekyung Lee

Denison University Assistant Professor HyeKyung Lee will give a recital at 8 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 15) in Burke Recital Hall. Lee will be joined by guest pianist Mariko Kaneda of Ohio Wesleyan University for several works on the concert.
The program includes Lee's "FUBU" (conFUsion/comBUstion) for piano and tape (2001) and "GASP" for solo piano (2002). Kaneda will join Lee for "Variations on a theme of Paganini" for two pianos by Witold Lutoslawski. Also on the program are: "Pavane pour une infante defunte" for solo piano by Maurice Ravel; "Cortege Burlesque" for piano four hands by Emmanuel Chabrier; "Three Preludes" by George Gershwin (transcribed for two pianos by Gregory Stone); and "Scaramouche" for two pianos by Darius Milhaud.
Lee graduated from YonSei University, Korea, and completed her graduate study at The University of Texas at Austin. She has won an ASCAP Standard Award, a Composers Guild Award, Delius Composition Contest Prize, Nancy Van de Vate Prize for Orchestral Music, and the Search for New Music Prize from International Alliance for Women in Music. She also earned an honorable mention in the Harvey Gaul Composition Competition and has been awarded many fellowships for residencies. She joined the Denison faculty this year.
