Interfaith Week Events at Denison

Denison University’s annual interfaith week is a celebration of many religious traditions, offering a wide variety of opportunities to interact with people of other faiths. The events begin with a dinner program at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, at Slayter Hall Shepardson Room (200 Ridge Road). The topic of discussion, “Kolam — a daily Indian ritual,” will be led by Ravi and Sheela Shankar. All interfaith week events are free and open to the public, however reservations are required for the dinner. Contact Tricia Ruess at 740-587-6727.

Other events of the week include: a meditative labyrinth walk, which will be open at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the Burton D. Morgan Welsh Hills Room (150 Ridge Road); a film screening and discussion on “Portrayals of Islam in Media,” at 7:30 p.m. in the Burton D. Morgan Lecture Hall (150 Ridge Road); and “Patching Together a Meditation Quilt,” where participants will decorate patches of fabric on a quilt to contain thoughts, prayers and meditations, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, in Slayter Hall 3rd floor (200 Ridge Road).

The final event of the week will be an Interfaith Panel Discussion on the topic “What if Obama Were a Muslim?” The panel will include representatives from the Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Roman Catholic traditions. The panel will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, at Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive).
