Denison Senior Presents Choreographic Research
Date of Event: April 24, 2009
Posted: April 21, 2009
Denison University senior Brittany Jackson (Kent, Ohio), will present her senior choreographic research at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, in the Doane Dance performance space (231 West College Street). The performances are free and open to the public.
“All These Mixed Up Illuminations” is a combination of contemporary dance and ballet and explores several literary works through movements. The texts used include “Everything is Illuminated” by Jonathon Safran Foer; “Ella Enchanted” by Gail Carson Levine; “The View From Saturday” and “From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler” by E.L. Konigsburg; and “Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot. The 30-minute work features Jackson, Elizabeth Gannon (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Elisabeth Giffin (Indianapolis, Ind.), Samantha Hyde (Akron, Ohio), Catherine Latell (Warren, Ohio) and Alison Waldman (Penfield, N.Y.). Movements were derived directly from the texts and explore the themes and ideas present to those works.
Jackson, a dance and English literature double major, found the inspiration for this project in a desire to combine and explore her two majors in tandem.
