Denison University Jazz Ensemble Concert

The Denison University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Pete Mills, will perform on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). The concert is free and open to the public.

The Ensemble’s “Big Band Concert” will feature two guest soloists, trumpeter Ansyn Banks and trombonist Sarah Morrow. Banks is a professor of jazz studies at the University of Louisville and has performed with Hank Marr, Gene Walker and Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra. An Ohio native, Morrow was discovered by Ray Charles and became the first female musician to play for his orchestra. Since then she has toured throughout the United States and Europe and released three albums, two with the Sarah Morrow Quintet and the third, “Sarah Morrow and the American All Stars in Paris,” with American musicians of all generations currently living in Paris.
