Jazz Guitar Festival

GRANVILLE, Ohio —Denison University’s 16th Annual Jazz Guitar Festival will kick off a weekend of music with a concert featuring John Carlini and the “Music of David Grisman” with members of Denison’s music faculty, Andy Carlson, Michael Smith, Casey Cook and Doug Richeson, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, in the Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). The festival will continue with a series of clinics taking place from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Rehearsal Room of Burke Hall, and will conclude with a concert featuring the Gene Bertoncini/Michael Moore Duo and the Tom Carroll Quartet with Doug Richeson, Seth Rogers and special guest Mark Flugge on piano,

A veteran guitarist and composer, John Carlini’s musical portfolio includes genres from classical to Broadway to jazz to bluegrass. Carlini is especially known for his work in founding the “New Acoustic Music” movement.
 
Guitarist Gene Bertoncini and renowned bass player Michael Moore will reunite for an evening of incomparable jazz. The duo has played to rave reviews since the 1970s and their fruitful partnership has continued to grow through the years.
 
Mark Flugge is well known as a pianist, composer, educator and bandleader in the Central Ohio area and beyond. He is a jazz faculty member at The Ohio State University, the Capital University Conservatory of Music, and the Jazz Arts Group’s Jazz Academy.
