Denison Dance Major Presents 'What More Could We Ask To Be?'
Date of Event: March 4, 2005
Posted: February 22, 2005
The Denison University Department of Dance will present a concert of work, "What more could we ask to be?" by senior dance major Anusha Jogi at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (March 4 & 5) in the Doane Dance Performance Space (231 West College St.). Admission is free and open to the public. To reserve a space call (740) 587-6712 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m or e-mail Jill Uland at ulandj@denison.edu.
This concert is the culmination of Jogi's Senior Honors Research Project and investigates the roles that women play in society and how these roles are depicted in the arts. Jogi has been researching this since the spring of 2004, when she presented the choreographic "Symbiosis." During summer 2004, she completed a Young Scholars Research Project, advised by Associate Professor Gill Wright Miller, titled "The Artists' Canvas: Women and their Roles in Society." This year, she has investigated the themes that were manifested during her summer project in a choreographic project which was advised by Associate Professor Sandy Mathern-Smith.
For Jogi, this project represents both the culmination of four years of rigorous academic study in the dance department and her experiences and relationships. Through contemporary dance, she investigates a breadth of issues from motherhood to power and hope. The choreography in this concert was created to allow the audience the opportunity to see their own experiences reflected through the movements of the dancers.
The dancers who will perform Jogi's choreography are Aubrey Perlee '05 (Jamestown, N.Y.), Sarah Drake '07 (Traverse City, Mich.), Kerri Grinnage '07 (Midlothian, Va.), Eleni Grove '07 (Middleburg, Va.) and Alexandra Kirkilis '07 (Dripping Springs, Texas).
The concert will be followed each evening by a brief reception where audience members can have conversations with the cast, crew and choreographer.
