GRANVILLE -- Founder and former CEO of Travelocity.com, former CIO of Sabre, Inc., and Denison University graduate, Terry Jones '70, will present "E-Commerce Means Business" at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 29) in Denison University's Slayter Auditorium. Free and open to the public, this presentation is sponsored by Career Services, Student Activities, and the Entrepreneur-in-Residence program.

Jones will discuss branding, marketing, e-commerce, technology, entrepreneurship, and customer relationship management during his lively presentation. A sought-after consultant, he owns his own consulting firm, Essential Ideas, and speaks worldwide to a variety of audiences. "His programs are both informative and mind expanding," says Pam Allen, director of Denison's career services office. "Jones will challenge us to think about the future uses of technology and much more!"

In Travelocity.com Jones created a profitable dot com business with 33 million members. CNN called him "a major web pioneer, who six years ago founded a dot com that would revolutionize how you bought airline tickets and vacations."

Although the dot com craze is over and 500 internet companies have shut their doors, e-commerce sales are larger than ever. Large brands and small are finding the right techniques to grow their sales online. Companies now understand that searching for products is the most popular online activity and that companies have to determine how their product can be found and purchased. "More than 32 percent of shoppers have now purchased in all three channels (in person, on the phone, and on line)," says Jones, "and more than 80 percent of college students have made a purchase on the web and use it extensively in their studies. Companies that don't ensure that their products are available and easy to buy in all three channels won't be successful in this newly wired world."
