Denison lecture on holistic awareness of self

Date of Event: June 4, 2010

Posted: May 28, 2010

Author Deane Juhan will present a mind-body focused lecture, “Merging Subjective Awareness: A Step out of Solipsism,” at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4, in Denison University’s Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). The lecture, sponsored by the Denison Department of Dance, is free and open to the public.

Juhan is best known as the author of “Job’s Body: A Handbook for Bodywork.” Many consider it the essential text on the means, methods, uses and applications of what has come to be known as “bodywork.” Bodywork is described as a series of therapies and techniques in complementary medicine that involve touching or manipulating the body. Juhan was three years into his doctoral studies when his life path was turned by a course taught by Milton Trager at Esalen Institute in Big Sur in the 1970s. He maintains a private practice at Esalen to this day.

The lecture is the keynote of a conference on somatic pedagogies: mind-body practices and the ways in which they are shared with clients, students, and other practitioners. For additional information on other kinds of offers, please contact the Department of Dance at 740-587-6712.
