GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison University’s Department of Psychology will present two lectures by M.T. Turvey, Board of Trustees’ Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut. The first lecture, “Theory of Perception-Action for All Organisms: What Kind of Science Does it Entail?” will take place at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 2, in the auditorium of Slayter Hall (150 Ridge Road). The second lecture, “Haptic Perception: An Ecological Analysis of Knowing by Touching,” will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, in the auditorium of Higley Hall (100 Ridge Road). A winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Turvey’s psychological research interests include dynamic touch, interlimb coordination, optic flow and visual word recognition. He also received an Ig Nobel Prize in 2004, for “exploring and explaining the dynamics of hula-hooping.”
 
Through funds given to the psychology department by the late J.R. Kantor, each year the department organizes a two-day visit to the campus by a prominent psychologist.
