Jeremy King will join the Denison University administration as the college’s first full-time campus sustainability coordinator. Beginning Oct. 19, King will be responsible for integrating sustainability into Denison’s campus life and operations.

“By creating this position, Denison is building on past initiatives,” says President Dale Knobel. “Our commitment, as individuals and as an institution, is to achieving progressively greater environmental sustainability. We’re pleased to welcome Jeremy back to campus. His role is to coordinate, stimulate, inform, and encourage our community as we take on these important issues. Jeremy’s experiences as a teacher and his hands-on environmental stewardship as a Peace Corps volunteer will be invaluable to his alma mater.”

A native of Granville, King graduated from Denison with a Bachelor of Arts in biology and education; he also holds a master’s in natural resources from Ohio State University. King and his wife Susan Studer King spent two years in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, where he was a natural resources conservation volunteer working with local governments and community organizations to implement sustainable projects.

The new sustainability coordinator is the result of work completed by Denison’s Task Force on Institutional Environmental Policy, which also helped to create a campus sustainability committee.

“As an alumnus of Denison, I am very proud that the college has decided to take a proactive approach to becoming a more environmentally conscious institution,” says King. “While many institutions are struggling to make ends meet during these tough financial times, Denison has made a clear statement that sustainability matters and that it is not only vital to the wellbeing of our planet but also to the wellbeing of the college.”
