On the program for the concert will be Giuseppe Tartini's "Devil's Trill Sonata," a tour de force for virtuosic violin playing, and Brahms' "Sonata No. 1 in G major." Following intermission, Assistant Professor Andrew Carlson, who studied with La Fosse at the University of Iowa, will join him in playing J. S. Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins in D minor." along with the Denison Chamber Orchestra.
Prior to the Sunday concert, La Fosse will conduct rehearsals and master classes with the orchestra members and with student soloists.
Born in Massachusetts, La Fosse began studying the violin at the age of 3 and made his first public appearance at 4. At the age of 8, he began a three-year series of appearances on NBC national radio network programs in New York City as "The Young Master of the Violin" presented by Milton Cross.
La Fosse now teaches violin and string pedagogy at the University of Iowa. He directs the LaFosse Baroque Ensemble there and serves as head of the string area for the University's School of Music. He previously has taught at the University of Texas at Austin.
A musician of wide experience in many performance areas, La Fosse has been concertmaster of five symphony orchestras: San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Aspen Music Festival and the National Symphony of Peru. He has made annual appearances in Brazil since 1981 to teach, give master classes and perform. In addition, he has been to Brazil twice as a Fulbright professor. His career as soloist and chamber musician has taken him on tours in Europe, Russia and South America as well as throughout the United States.
