Denison Student Group Hosts Mexican Holiday Celebration
Posted: December 1, 2006
La Fuerza Latina, a Denison student organization formed in 1996 to promote Latino awareness on campus, will sponsor a reenactment of a Latin American holiday tradition. "Las Posadas," which commemorates Mary and Joseph's cold and difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem and their search for shelter, will be celebrated from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 6) in Slayter Hall.
One of the most colorful traditions of the Christmas season, the posada parties in Latin America are held from Dec. 16 to 24. Each night a neighborhood home hosts the party with food and drink and goodies for the children. At dusk, guests gather outside and sing as they walk, carrying lit candles.
Adults and children are welcome to attend this reenactment of the traditional party. There will be treats and crafts and music for all ages to enjoy.
