GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Department of Classics welcomes Professor John Given of East Carolina University presenting a lecture titled "Collaborations with the Ancients: Directing Classical Theatre." Professor Given has published numerous articles on Greek drama and is an advocate for scholarly performance. The talk takes place at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, in Denison University’s Herrick Performance Hall (600 West Loop). The event is free and open to the public.

Given will speak on the theory and practice of bringing ancient drama to the contemporary stage and will feature clips from recent student productions while discussing the challenges and rewards of bringing ancient comedy alive. He has acted in numerous ancient comedies and tragedies including, recently, Aristophanes' Birds and Women at the Thesmophoria and Euripides' Cyclops. Given starred as Catullus in the world premiere live performance of a new radio play about the life, love and poetry of Gaius Valerius Catullus.
