Traditional Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols at Denison
Posted: November 21, 2007 / Last Updated: November 27, 2007
The seventh annual "Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols" is set for 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, in Denison University's Swasey Chapel. A Lessons and Carols Choir comprised of students studying in the music department, along with the Ladies Night Out ensemble, Tehillah Gospel Music Ensemble and the Denison Flute Ensemble will be performing special music.
Jointly sponsored by the Office of Religious Life and the Department of Music, the service was inaugurated in 2000 and is now a Christmas celebration for the University and a seasonal event for the local community. Preceded by a week of tower bell concerts, the service will include biblical readings, processions and congregational carols.
Mark R. Orten, director of religious life and university chaplain, and Kevin N. Wines, liturgist and conductor, will preside at the service. Scott Hayes, organist at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Granville, will play and lead the singing of the congregational carols from the organ console.
