Two Artists Plan Denison Residency and Program

Two artists will visit Denison under the sponsorship of the Vail Visiting Artists fund. During their week-long residency, Anya Liftig and Angus Galloway will give a public presentation titled "Performance, Photography and Cake Frosting" at 7 p.m., on Wednesday (March 28) in Room 603 of Cleveland Hall. They also will be collaborating with the Studio Art Foundation class during the week.

Liftig earned a bachelor's degree at Yale University with a major in English literature and a master of fine arts degree at Georgia State University with concentrations in photography and interdisciplinary studies in performance and installation art. Her interest in photography took her to the International Center of Photography, New York, where she studies technical and portrait studies. She has had solo exhibitions in New Haven, New York, and Atlanta and will be part of a group exhibition at the University of Illinois at Chicago this May.

Liftig's work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia and Morse College of Yale University. She has served as a gallery assistant and as a photography instructor at Georgia State University, Atlanta College of Art and Emory University.

Galloway was born in Bath, England. He earned his bachelor's degree in art history and studio art at Emory University and a master of fine arts degree at Georgia State University, where he concentrated in drawing, painting, and printmaking. He currently is a photographer and web designer for the James Graham and Sons Gallery in New York. He also has served as a sound production assistant for Eyebeam Technology Center, New York, a drawing instructor at Georgia State University, a production assistant and sound supervisor on a short film, "The Emperor's New Clothes," filmed in Atlanta, and as a studio director and lecturer at Emory University.

He has received two Showcase Awards and the Andrew West Award from Georgia State. He has exhibited at the Tribes Gallery, New York, and at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, the Lowe Gallery, the Ernest G. Welch Gallery and the Eyedrum Small Gallery, all in Atlanta. He has given lectures at the Parsons School of Design, Young Harris College, The Paideia School, Emory University and in the Summer Lecture Series, "Artists in the Park," in New York.
