Denison Art Gallery Continues 'Year of the Museum' Lecture Series

The Denison University Gallery continues its "Year of the Museum" lecture series, with an address by Denison alumna Nannette Maciejunes, executive director of the Columbus Museum of Art. The lecture series is designed to address different aspects of museum collections. Maciejunes will present "Directors and Their Collections" at 5 p.m. on Wednesday (March 8) in Burke Hall (241 W. College St.) The lecture is free and open to the public.

Maciejunes was named the executive director of the Columbus Museum of Art in November 2003 after serving as acting director for one year. Prior to this Maciejunes was the director of collections and exhibitions; in addition, she has been the senior curator since 1994 with specific responsibility for the museum's American collections. In 1997 she was the co-curator ofThe Paintings of Charles Burchfield, the specialty of her research, which toured to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American Art. Maciejunes has co-curated a number of exhibitions of American art, includingTriumph of Color and Light: Ohio Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, Elijah Pierce Woodcarver, andWeaving a Legacy: The Don and Jean Stuck Coverlet Collection. Three of her exhibitions have traveled abroad to Japan, Mexico, Austria, and Hungary, promoting American Art.

Maciejunes is asumma cum laudegraduate of Denison University, and a graduate of the Ohio State University. Previously she taught History of Art at Denison, and served as curator of collections and exhibitions at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, Tenn.

The two remaining lectures scheduled for the series, all at 5 p.m. in Burke Hall, are: "Caring for Paper and Textile Collections: Fiber Degradation and Related Preservation Solutions," by Teena Jennings, professor of textile science and design at the University of Akron, and Melinda McPeek, collections manager at Denison, on March 29; and "Piecing Together The Past: The Art and Science of Conservation," by Jill Sterrett, head of collections and conservation at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, on April 12.
