Denison Magazine, the flagship print publication of Denison University, recently was honored with three awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The international awards recognize excellence in higher education magazines and are judged by panels of education advancement professionals.

The magazine was awarded a gold medal in the Best Article of the Year category for the story “The Education of Abdi Ali.” The magazine also won a silver medal for general excellence and a silver medal for design.

“We know from having kept an eye on what our colleagues at other institutions are doing, that there are a lot of great alumni and university magazines,” says editor Maureen Harmon. “So it’s a real pleasure to have Denison Magazine selected as one of the best.”

In announcing the winners, CASE said these awards “acknowledge superior accomplishments that have lasting impact, demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and deliver exceptional results. Winning programs epitomize the profession’s best practices, raise standards and contribute to a growing body of knowledge about advancement. The Circle of Excellence awards are judged by panels of advancement practitioners who understand the challenges, opportunities and rewards inherent in the advancement profession.”

Including these latest honors, Denison Magazine has obtained 10 awards from CASE in the past five years. It also garnered silvers for general excellence in 2008 and 2007 and two golds for visual design and periodical special issues in 2008. In 2006, the publication was awarded the Robert Sibley Magazine of the Year Grand Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed by CASE upon all college and university magazines.

CASE is a professional association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas. The association includes nearly 3,400 colleges and universities, primary and secondary independent and international schools, and nonprofit organizations in 59 countries.
