Maria Toledano Candlelight Vigil

On Monday (April 7) we learned of the loss of Maria Adela Toledano ’11 of Cambridge, Massachusetts, in an auto accident the evening before. Since then, the Denison campus community has come together to support one another in grief.

Maria is remembered in thoughts, in prayers, and Monday night, in a candlelight vigil by all those who lived and learned with her at Denison. We also have come together — students, faculty, and staff alike — to express our deepest hopes for the full recovery of Maria’s Denison classmate, Marcus Eagan of Detroit, who was seriously injured in the accident in Knox County, about 25 miles north of.

The Office of Student Affairs and the Student Health and Counseling Center have provided counseling services for many members of the campus community, and I know that others have benefited from the support and comfort offered by classmates, professors and Denison friends.

On behalf of our students, faculty and staff, I want to thank all those from outside our community for their expressions of sympathy and support.

In trying times, our close-knit residential community is at its best. Our hearts go out to Maria's family and to all who loved her.
