Acclaimed Dramatist MacLeod Visits Denison as Beck Lecturer

Playwright Wendy MacLeod, a six-time nominee for the L.A. Drama Critics Circle award, will read passages from her work at 4:30 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 3) in the Barney-Davis Board Room. MacLeod is the fourth visiting writer in this fall's Beck Lecture Series.
The author of 14 plays, includingThe Water Children,Schoolgirl Figure, Things Being What They AreandThe House of Yes, MacLeod'sThe House of Yesbecame a Miramax film starring Parker Posey, earning a Special Jury Recognition Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
Her new play,Juvenilia, a story about two maturing college students and their sexual revelations, premieres next month at Playwrights Horizons in New York City. It grew out of a writing exercise she gave her students in which they were asked to swap descriptions of a place they knew well and then write a short play using the description. With an odd number of students in the class, MacLeod took one of the descriptions andJuveniliahad its start.
MacLeod, a New Dramatist alumna and graduate of the Yale School of Drama, currently serves as the James Michael Playwright-in-Residence at her alma mater, Kenyon College. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild. MacLeod's plays have been performed at Steppenwolf Theater and The Goodman Theater in Chicago, The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., The Gate Theater in London and Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin. Among the awards her plays have garnered are the Bay Area Critics Circle Award and the Drama Logue Award for The House of Yes and the Charles MacArthur Award for The My House Play.
