Seven Students Named as Winners of Denison's Highest Award
On Friday, April 18, Denison University's students, faculty, staff and trustees convened at the college’s 2008 Academic Awards Convocation in Swasey Chapel to recognize the academic achievements of its students, honor its outstanding faculty members, and present medals to seven outstanding graduating seniors.
The President's Medals were established in 1985 as Denison's highest and most prestigious honor, recognizing students who have demonstrated not only intellectual achievement, but also have made some other significant contribution to the community in such areas as global awareness, athletic fitness, leadership and campus discourse.
This year's recipients of the President's Medal are:
- James Paul Clear, son of Patti and Jim Clear of Hamilton, a 2004 graduate of Stephen T. Badin High School who is majoring in biomechanics;
- Erin Elizabeth Gorsich, daughter of Therese Rinehart and Mike Gorsich, both of Dover, a 2004 graduate of Dover High School who is majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry;
- Romero Rayne Huffstead, son of Raymond Huffstead and Theresa Burton of Skokie, Ill., a 2004 graduate of Amundsen High School who is majoring in psychology;
- Madeline Elizabeth Mohre, daughter of Trudy and David Mohre of DeWitt, Mich., who is majoring in studio art;
- Jessie Elizabeth Kanelos, daughter of Elizabeth and David Kanelos of Chicago, Ill., a 2004 graduate of Lane Tech College Prepatory School who is majoring in theatre and minoring in studio art;
- Erik Peter Teh Walker, son of Amy and Dale Walker of The Woodlands, Texas, who is majoring in political science and German; and
- Alexandra Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Lisa and Phillip Wilson of North Hampton, N.H., who is majoring in history and applied music and violin performance.
