Denison Hosts Chilean Writer

The Laura C. Harris "Gendered Borders" program hosts Lina Meruane who will lecture on "La escirtura y sus disturbios" (Out of Bounds) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 15) in Higley Auditorium. This lecture, in English, is free and open to the public. The Laura C. Harris "Gendered Borders" program, the Women's Studies Program, and the Department of Modern Languages sponsor this lecture.

Meruane is a Chilean writer, journalist and columnist for Santiago de Chile's daily "El Mercurio." A 2001 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, she has written three books, "Las Infanta," "Posteruma," and "Cercada." Her short stories have appeared in anthologies as well as in international magazines. She as been invited to read her works at the Latino Round Table in New York, Cornell University, Washington University, Barnard College and the University of Oregon. Currently, Meruane resides in New York City and is in the process of completing her doctorate in Latin American contemporary fiction.
