Denison Jazz Musician Celebrates Release of New CD with Concerts

GRANVILLE -- Saxophonist Pete Mills, an affiliated studio instructor of music at Denison and director of the University's Jazz Ensemble, will celebrate the release of a new recording with two concerts and a clinic. All events are free and open to the public.
The CD release concert will be at 3 p.m., on Sunday (Oct. 10), in Burke Recital Hall. Playing with Mills will be New York City guitarist Pete McCann, Jim Rupp on drums and Doug Richeson on bass.
Another concert, featuring Mills and McCann, an album collaborator, will be at 10 p.m., Thursday (Oct.7), at the Bandersnatch Coffee House in the Huffman Dining Hall. Also playing that night will be Bobby Floyd on piano, Richeson and Rupp. The masterclass and clinic with guitarist McCann will be from 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m., Friday (Oct.8), in Burke Recital Hall.
A native of Toronto (Canada) and currently residing in Columbus, Mills performs regularly with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. His newest CD, under The Summit Record label, is named "Art and Architecture." The CD features drummer Matt Wilson, bassist Devin Irwin, McCann on acoustic and electric guitar, and Floyd on the piano. Mills' first solo release was the critically acclaimed "Momentum" (COJAZZ Records, 1998).
Mills presents many workshops on improvisation, ensemble skills and practice techniques at colleges and high schools including Ohio State University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Ashland University and Ohio Wesleyan University. Mills earned degrees from The Eastman School of Music and The University of North Texas.
