As long as there are soldiers, they will be leaving for tours of duty. “Minus One,” a film co-directed by Denison University Department of Cinema Assistant Professor Marc Wiskemann, depicts three soldiers who reconcile the emotions of farewells to their families as they ready for deployment. The film will screen at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, in the Slayter Hall auditorium (200 Ridge Road). “Minus One” will be followed by a panel discussion, which will be open to comments from the audience, regarding the effects of war. The film and discussion are free and open to the public. For more information visit www.minusonethemovie.com.

Wiskemann, an award-winning filmmaker whose short films have screened around the world, makes his feature-film directing debut with “Minus One.”

“Everyone has seen depictions of what a battle looks like, but we focus on the emotional and psychological toll that takes place outside of that arena,” says Wiskemann. “The issues that face soldiers and their families reach far beyond the battlefield.”

“Minus One” premiered at the GI Film Festival in Washington, D.C., this spring and followed with an opening this summer in Columbus.
